Baby Raccoon

I spotted this little guy while walking around Strawtown Koteewi Park in northern Hamilton County. He seemed like he was mostly fuzz. He wasn't paying attention very well; I hope he learns some caution before a red-tail, great horned owl, or coyote catches him.

Raccoon at Schramm Woods

This afternoon, while doing a bird count for the GBBC, I spotted this raccoon asleep on top of this tree. He would poke his head up when I whistled, but then quickly hunker back down.

By the way, the Great Backyard Bird Count is a simple way to contribute to our scientific knowledge. My list for my hour spent at the woods is short, but is a typical afternoon list at Schramm. I usually see Juncos and Goldfinches, but they are probably at someone's feeder right now.

Barred Owl (sitting in the same tree as always)
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Pileated Woodpecker
American Crow
Carolina Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
White-breasted Nuthatch
European Starling
Northern Cardinal

Raccoon by the Big Raccoon

I have been working near the Big Raccoon Creek, Putnam County, IN a bit lately. I laugh inside almost every time I think of the name, because I was with Regan one day when we crossed the creek, and he said, "I wonder how big the raccoon was that they named the creek after?"

Baby Raccoons

I found this family of raccoons at Paul Ruster park. The three babies were very playful and kept wrestling. The mother had her eyes on me, though.

Baby Raccoon

This sad little guy was wailing piteously when we came along. He was cute, though. Hopefully he learned to be quiet. Picture taken in Hamilton County, Ohio.

Resting Raccoon

Joy and I took a nature walk through Paul Ruster Park Friday morning. We almost walked on by this sleepy guy in his tree house.
