Great Basin Flowers part 6
This milkvetch is Astragalus toanus. There were a lot of different milkvetches in the area. This one was probably the third most common in our section of Spring Valley. I have been told that it is a selenium indicator. It grew primarily on the far southern end of the project.
This Balsalmroot (Balsamorhiza hookeri) and the one following were both growing near the Mather overlook at the national park.
Balsamorhiza serrata had similar flowers, but quite different leaves.
This hedgehog cactus was growing along the entrance to the park. I took quite a many photos. Bees would just disappear into the flowers and come out covered with pollen. You can just make out one in the last picture.
