Great Basin Flowers part 4
These were all flowers that were blooming in hillsides above the valley.
The Paintbrush was still in all its glory in June. Especially when the setting sun would catch the bracts.
After seeing the bush during winter and reading about it, I was looking forward to seeing it in flower. This is Cliffrose (Cowania mexicana). This one was blooming up by Rose Guano Cave.
This buckwheat (Eriogonum cespitosum) was common up the Twisted Pines trail at Cave Lake State Park.
I was hiking back down the mountain at Cave Lake, trying to beat the sunset, when I spied this little lily on the trail. I had never seen it before. After finding the first one, my eyes were opened and I realized that they were everywhere. They sure don't stand out at first. This graceful lily is Fritillaria atropurpurea.
This Broomrape (Orobanche fasiculata)is a parasite on the roots of sagebrush.
