Blackpoll Warbler
In past years, I would typically see only see a couple Blackpoll Warblers. They never seemed common and I would be very excited to see one. This year, numerous Blackpolls have set up temporary residence at our apartment. Their song fills the air. Both songs, to be more accurate. It has been a good chance to study their main song and alternate song. Both songs are very high pitched, but one is buzzier and blurred together and the other has distinct syllables. I have been trying to appreciate this abundance. A Blackpoll even landed in the grapevine on my porch while I was working in the garden. Maybe this is just a local variation in Blackpoll numbers or maybe this is just a yearly cycle.
