Michigan City Lighthouse

View of the walk out to the lighthouse. The lake was frozen for a good distance past the lighthouse. I couldn't see many birds from the lighthouse, but there were a bunch of Goldeneyes, Megansers, and Buffleheads sheltering in the marina.
A cold front had come through very recently. The lake was not frozen the night before. The wind was still over 30 mph and the wind chill was about -30. It was fun to pretend to be an arctic explorer. You could see the lake surging and swelling out in the distance and ghostly water vapor clouds being whipped across the lake.
Joy and I walked to the top of Mt. Baldy. (Surprisingly, it wasn't crowded.) There is a new trail and stairs, so the old days of running down the dune are past. If you ignore the wind, it was very serene.
