Hawthorn Half Day Relay

On Saturday, Rich, Andrew, and I participated in a half day (12 hours) relay race at Hawthorn Park in Terre Haute. We were on six person co-ed teams and ran a 5K (3.1 mile) course. Andrew, Rich, and I were all on different teams, but the three teams all supported each other. Hanging out and cheering with the three teams made it a lot of fun. The park was very scenic and the course was wooded and hilly. Andrew and I were the first runners on our teams and got to do the course 5 times. Rich got to run the course 4 times. We had about 2.5 hours between runs. The 12 hour period was from 7 am to 7 pm. I have never done a relay race and I had to be careful with eating. Andrew's team finished with 83 miles, my team finished with 81 miles, and Rich's team finished with 77 miles. The weather was great for us, it was not hot and it didn't rain until the afternoon. I finished all my laps right around 24 minutes. In one sense, it was harder than a mini because you are running so hard each lap, but on the other hand, you get to rest for at least two hours after each lap.
