Shades and Turkey Run
Last weekend we took a day trip to Shades and Turkey Run State Parks to enjoy the fall day and to take in some fall color. It was a little cool at first, but then warmed up. We took trail 5 in Shades, but turned around when we got to some ladders. I wasn't feeling up to carrying Laney down a ladder. Laney was relieved and jumped up with Joy for a photo op.
As a second choice, we went with trail 7 and trail 8. These were more up Laney's alley, with plenty of rocks and streams to cross.
After finishing those trails, we headed down the road to Turkey Run. Turkey Hollow is one of our favorite places, with an incredible, deep gorge. Laney cracked us up by staring up in wonder. Actually, she was probably just listening to squirrels playing in the forest above.
Just below Turkey Hollow is Sunset Point. We all climbed out onto a shelf that sticks out over Sugar Creek. We sat here for a while.
