Immature Bald Eagle
Joy, Laney, and I went for a hike at Shades State Park this afternoon. One of our stops was at Prospect Point, overlooking the Sugar Creek. The day was gorgeous, and the view alone was enough to encourage lingering, but two immature Bald Eagles stole the show.
In the top photo, one of the Bald Eagles is starting to take off from the stream bottom far below. They both rode thermals right up past our vantage point, circling around right in front of us.My best guess is that this is a third year Bald Eagle. It was a treat to see such detail in flight. Those primaries look almost a foot long!
