Hiking with Laney at Devil's Lake State Park

While Laney and I were waiting for Ben to finish his marathon, we went on a hike to see some of the park's most popular landmarks.  It was a short (under 2 miles) hike, but it ended up being mostly steps up a rocky bluff.  It took us longer than I thought it would, but we still made it back in time to see Ben finish his race.

Here is Laney looking up at the trail.  I wondered what was going through her mind as we climbed up the bluff.

Here is part of the trail.  The park did a really great job making nice steps out of rocks.

Laney at the Devil's Doorway.

Laney and me at the Devil's Doorway.  You can sort of see how high up we are in this pic with the lake in the background.

Laney and me at Balanced Rock.  It may be hard to tell from the picture, but it is a rather large rock.  You can get right up next to it too.  I saw a couple of people trying to push it, but it didn't budge.

After seeing those two sites, Laney and I headed back down the steep bluff.   Here she is taking a little break on a rock.

Then we headed back to watch the end of the race.  The hike wore Laney out and she was pretty tired the rest of the day.  Here she is relaxing in the grass, waiting for her daddy to finish his race.
