Lehman Caves
Carlos and I visited Great Basin National Park on Saturday. We fit in a tour of the Lehman Caves between birding hikes. While not a large cave, the tour is worthwhile for all the fabulous formations inside the cave.
My favorite room was the Cypress Swamp. The floor is covered with pools of water, and 'cypress knees' stick up out of the pools.
Flowstone in the Grand Palace. Hard to tell from the picture, but it is over 20' from floor to ceiling.
The most famous type of formation at the Lehman Caves is called a shield. They are circular discs. Two large examples are in the middle of the picture. My favorite description is "an elephant stepping in bubble gum."
