Lincoln's Sparrow
Being May, warblers usually steal the show. Today, the sparrows put up some competition. I am always trying to make Song Sparrows into Lincoln's, or at least I am always thinking about Lincoln's whenever a Song hops into view. The funny thing is that when you see one, it is obvious and not the dilemma that you had imagined it might be. (I have had the same experience with Blue Grosbeaks and Indigo Buntings.) Lincoln's Sparrow have such a warmth of color. In addition to the Lincoln's Sparrow, there was a Swamp Sparrow in the same tree line, maybe 20' further down. Melospiza was out in full force.
