Salamanders
Amy and I went to a headwater stream assessment training in Ohio yesterday. We learned a lot, plus it was a great day to be outside. Salamanders are an indicator of quality headwater streams, for a number of reasons. I am just beginning to learn more about these cool creatures. The top picture is of a Redback Salamander (Plethodon cinereus).
A larval Southern Two-lined Salamander (Eurycea cirrigera). Notice the gills. Larval salamanders are an especially good indicator of quality headwater streams.
