Leatherwood

Dirca palustris
I had been wanting to find this shrub for a while. It is a nice native shrub that does well in moist and wet soils. Its twigs are so leathery that they cannot be broken off. This is from wikipedia: "The branches are very pliable and have been used in the past as thongs. Some people have tied the branches of a living shrub in a knot without their breaking."
