Turkey Run State Park

This weekend, Ben and I went to Turkey Run State Park to celebrate our 5th anniversary. For anyone who knows the park, we hiked parts of trail 1, 2, 3, 4, and 10. Some of the highlights were Box Canyon, Gypsy Gulch, the Lusk Earth Fill, the Old Coal Mine, Wedge Rock, Rocky Hollow, the Punch Bowl and the Ice Box. After a nice dinner at the Inn, we took a short walk on trail 6 to Sunset Point. The next day before we left we did trail 11 and 7. We had a fun time and great weather and we left right before the park got crazy crowded. Click here if you would like to see a map of the park (it is a pdf).

The salamander is a Northern Slimy Salamander (Plethodon glutinosus). Their name is earned from their ability to secrete copious amounts of mucous (slime) when disturbed, although they don't always do this.
