Short-eared Owls at Ewing Bottoms

This Saturday we went to southern Indiana near Seymour. The weather was wonderful. Ewing Bottoms on the White River near Brownstown attracts cranes during migration. Along with the 2,000 or so Sandhill Cranes were three white Whooping Cranes. It was our first time to see these gorgeous endangered species. There were some birders with scopes there, so we got some great looks. The second reason we went to Ewing Bottoms was to see the Short-eared Owls. They drew quite a crowd of bird watchers. The lighting was perfect and they came out about an hour before sunset. One owl flew right around and over Joy. A couple of my hundred pictures turned out. They were quite breathtaking. Harriers were hunting with them and they would chase each other.
