Downy Woodpeckers (Picoides pubescens)


Here are two pictures of a downy woodpecker. The top is the male. You can see the patch of red on the back of his head. The bottom is the female. She lacks the red on the back of her head.

Although I'm a frequent camper, I haven't really seen a woodpecker up close. I hope to see one the next time we go camping next spring. Hopefully, I can take pictures like this one.
