More Houdini

I took the lid off to get some better pictures of Houdini (a Green Treefrog). He is looking pretty fat and contented. I like it when he sleeps on the aloe, although he would probably feel most at home if I had vinyl siding in the tank.

Houdini

Houdini is a Green Tree Frog from my friend Kelly. He spends most of the day sitting in the top corner of the tank, waiting for more crickets. You should ask Joy sometime how he got his name. They can be hard to recapture.

Farewell to Tiny

Last week while cleaning the tank, we decided that Tiny had grown large enough to swim free. He was fun to feed, but he was never as friendly as other snappers we have had. He should have had enough time to find a nice spot in the mud and start the winter hibernation. (And I am sure he had enough food reserves to make it to spring.)

Meet "Little Guy"

We have a new pet! Ben found this little guy while working at Intech Park. He is really little as you can see in the pictures below. At first, I was afraid Tiny might eat him, because Tiny is a bit bigger than him, but they seem to be getting along just fine. I haven't settled on his name yet. I think it will either be Little Guy or Nickel.

The Grinch Close-up

The Grinch is pretty sleepy during the day. His pupils open up all the way when it is dark and he is active. I was really happy that I got him to eat out of my hand.

Butch the toad

Butch is a blast to watch eat. He sleeps are just stares most of the day, but the action starts when you put rolly-pollies, worms, or crickets in the cage. He will focus all his attention on the motion and then attack. Rolly-pollies and crickets he catches with his tongue like a bullfrog, but worms he eats like spaghetti. You can see in the photo that he is sitting in his little hole where he hides when he wants too.

The Grinch

The Grinch is one of the latest additions to the household. He is a Tokay Gecko of uknown age. I know that he is over two years old, because he has lived in my office at BSU for that long. He belonged to, and was named by Kelly Jones. Kelly did not have room for all of his pets after graduation. The Grinch was so named because he is not the kind of pet who likes to be held.

Tiny up-close

The last picture I put up of Tiny had no frame of reference. So here is a picture of Joy holding him/her. (It is hard to tell.) Tiny has eaten some food, so that is good. He likes to just sit on a brick most of the day.

Tiny

Meet the new member of the Hess household. I caught Tiny, a baby snapping turtle, this weekend in the Red River. His shell is about as big as a quarter.
