I stopped by a wetland near my house again tonight. The wetland has been decent for waterfowl (for Hancock County). A couple American Wigeons have been hanging out with the Mallards there. There have even been some Green-winged Teal a couple times. This afternoon when I stopped by, there were at least six snipe. One was closer to the road, so I just stopped to watch him for a while. He would bounce up and down rhythmically; probing the mud occasionally. Their distinctive feeding method made them recognizable from a distance. After a bit, a sheriff pulled up. I held up my binos and told him that I was looking for snipe. As he waved and drove away without another question, I thought about how that might sound.
