Some Flowers

Spring doesn't seem to have the nice display of spring ephemerals like up north, but there are a lot of woody plants flowering. Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida) seems to be doing fine in the hills around here.

This Florida Anise (Illicium floridanum) was blooming at Torreya State Park. The leaves do have an interesting scent when crushed.

Yellow Jasmine (Gelsemium sempervirens) is one of the dominant woody vines and the blooms seem to be covering everything. Despite this habit, it is a native flower.

Horse-sugar (Symplocos tinctoria) was in bloom along the corridor where we were working. There is such a variety of leathery-leaved woody plants. These flowers have a great scent, and I found myself locating trees by that alone.
